Wagner’s The Ring at the Värmland Opera House

In 2011 the Värmland Opera House will be giving a complete performance of Richard Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelung in one and the same week.
All four of the operas in the Ring of the Nibelung will be the inaugural production when the Värmland Opera House is reopened in 2011 after renovation work. Unlike opera houses that have performed the work in recent years, all four operas will be performed in one week! The Värmland Opera House is a perfect scene to perform Wagner’s operas in the small format. We continue our rich tradition after a series of Wagner successes during the year. The premiere is scheduled for Monday, April 18, 2011, and thus becomes a great new beginning after the renovation and extension to the Värmland Opera House. The whole cycle will be given five times, i.e. 20 performances in the spring and summer of 2011. The production team is the principal conductor Henrik Schaefer, director Wilhelm Carlsson, set designer Peter Lundquist, costume designer Ann-Mari Anttila and lighting designer Torkel Blomqvist.
Principal conductor Henrik Schaefer will conduct all the performances and will once again incorporate musical aspects from Wagner’s period such as allowing the string section to play on real gut strings, the frequent use of portamento and other playing techniques from the late 19th century. Henrik Schaefer and director Wilhelm Carlsson also worked together when the Värmland Opera House presented Wagner’s Parsifal in Karlstad’s cathedral in 2007. A performance that was voted the Best Swedish Opera production in 2007. Casting will soon be finished and the lead roles will be filled by some of the best opera singers in Sweden. These include: AnnLouice Lögdlund, Marcus Jupither, Michael Weinius, Lars Cleveman, Fredrik Zetterström, Kristina Hammarström, Anne Bolstad, Jonas Durán and Johan Schinkler.
Tickets will be released on April 18, 2010 - exactly one year before the premiere of the first cycle of The Ring of the Nibelung. Only tickets for the complete Ring cycles are currently being released.
